With the generous fiscal support of The Hollyfield Foundation, QFest proudly presents Shades of Gay, the festival’s first monthly film series dedicated to featuring the favorite movies of notable individuals within Houston’s dynamic Queer community. In partnership with Rice Cinema and Q&A (Queers & Allies) at Rice University, Shades of Gay programs will be hosted at Rice Media Center.

On Wednesday, April 24 at 6:30 p.m., please join QFest in welcoming Dean Daderko, Curator at The Contemporary Arts Museum Houston (CAMH), our third guest programmer in the Shades of Gay series. Dean will introduce Riot Acts, with director Madsen Minax in attendance.

Immediately preceding the screening of RIOT ACTS, join QFest and Rice Cinema for a pre-party featuring food from Nit Noy and sweet and sassy vinyl remixes by DJ ESTEFF. The reception begins at 6:30 p.m. All current QFest members receive free admission to the reception and film.

On May 29, Blake Hayes, morning DJ on Houston’s Mix 96.5, will introduce a 35mm screening of Milk, featuring Sean Penn, Emile Hirsch, Josh Brolin, Diego Luna, and James Franco.
